The Pope is resigning because he is getting run down. He is 85 years old. I don't know too many 85 year old's still going strong like Pope Benedict XVI, who has a schedule probably similar to the President or the CEO of Facebook. Pope Benedict is aware that he has limits in his old age, he isn't able to do what he used to at age 50, 60, 70, or even 80.
This made me think a little bit. If he is 85 years old and doing the things he's doing, how much more should I and could I be doing to spread the Gospel of Jesus. To me, that's inspiring. We hear terms like YOLO, but meaning, "I can do whatever I want", but think about Pope Benedict XVI, he was a young person like you and I, but he committed his life to giving and living for Jesus and the Catholic Church. He has given us so much for so long. He's given us his best and he's no longer able to give us his best, he knows that.
We are young and able. We can give our best. We can offer so much to our faith. Pope Benedict thinks we can do this too, he believes in US, the young Church. Do you believe it? What kind of commitment can you make to be a better follower of Jesus?
The Pope has been committed and no doubt will continue to commit himself to our faith in smaller roles, he's 85 and it makes perfect sense. We are young and have the complete ability to make an impact just like he did for the next several decades (hopefully) of our lives.
